Welcome to Vibrant Maine!

Yesterday marked a fun and promising beginning for the women of Vibrant Maine: the creation of our first Youtube video.  Our subject was Raw Through the Winter and our celebrity food was GINGER!

The process of making the video was insanely hilarious.  Bronwyn almost sacrificed her fingertips to the juicer’s spinning blades.  Kale and apple flew around haphazardly – despite our diligent efforts to keep things contained.   The quest to keep living foods lying still on a cutting board seems ambitious at best – they really do have a life of their own.  Lara spent an embarrassingly long time searching for something that was already in her hand.  Alexis did a great job keeping the camera still despite our uncontrollable laughing fits.

Great blooper material aside, our first video experience was a roaring success.  The three recipes we made were so intoxicatingly delicious we almost inhaled them.  The green ginger juice was the perfect way to start our day of filming: the combination of the calming effect of the kale with the warming, invigorating quality of the ginger put us in a grounded and energized state.  Our Winter Fire salad dressing was so yummy we decided to take a break from filming and make a salad to eat immediately (Lara is still salivating over the experience).  Finally, our Sun Bright Solstice soup warmed us up as it was starting to get darker.

Winter Fire

8 servings

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/3 cup raw apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup unpasteurized mellow white miso
  • 2 tsp cayenne
  • 2 tsp grated ginger
  • 3 cloves minced garlic

Full of flavor and ingredients to keep the cold (and the ‘flu) away.  We prefer to make large batches of Winter Fire as it keeps well in the fridge and we crave it so often!

Sun Bright Solstice Soup

  • 2 cups carrot juice
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • large handful cilantro
  • half a juiced lemon
  • 1.5 Tablespoon unpasteurized mellow white miso
  • 1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil
  • approximately 2 inches juiced ginger
  • salt to taste

We are so excited for our next video in the Raw Through the Winter series.  The recipe we will be featuring is our Blazin’ Hot Chocolate.  It is the perfect raw vegan treat for a chilly winter day.  See you then!
